Thank you for your interest in adopting from Diamonds in the Ruff Animal Rescue. We are a volunteer-based rescue organization, and our typical response time is approximately 24–48 hours. A volunteer may contact you by phone call, text message, or email, so please monitor your inbox and spam folder after submitting your application.

Before submitting your application, please complete the following steps:

• Contact your veterinarian and authorize the release of current and past pet records to Diamonds in the Ruff. Applications cannot be approved without veterinary information.
• If you rent your home, please notify your landlord that we will be contacting them to confirm approval for an adopted animal and review any pet-related policies or restrictions.
• Inform your personal references that a volunteer from our rescue may contact them.

Our Adoption Approval Process

1. Application Review

Our Adoption Coordinators will review your application to determine whether the animal you selected may be a good fit for your home and lifestyle. During this process, we will:

• Contact your personal references
• Verify veterinary records
• Contact landlords if applicable

If we have any concerns or believe another pet may be a better match, we will discuss alternative options with you.

2. Home Visit

Once your application is approved, a volunteer located in your area will schedule a home visit. This visit helps ensure the home environment is safe and appropriate for the animal.

During the visit:

• The volunteer will review the living environment
• All household members should be present if possible
• Identification may be required for household members ages 16 and older

These steps help us responsibly place animals into safe, loving homes while learning more about the environment each pet will be joining.

3. Meet & Greet

If the home visit is approved, we will arrange a meet-and-greet with the pet you are interested in adopting. A Diamonds in the Ruff representative will coordinate the visit and bring the pet to your home when applicable.

We require all members of the household to be present during the meet-and-greet to help ensure the best possible match for both the pet and the family.

Important Adoption Information

Our goal is to place each rescue animal in a home that best fits their personality, behavior, and individual needs. Applications are reviewed based on compatibility and overall fit — not solely in the order they are received.

If your application is approved but the pet you selected may not be the best match, our Adoption Coordinators may recommend another available animal that could better fit your household and lifestyle.

Diamonds in the Ruff reserves the right to conduct follow-up home checks if there are concerns regarding the health, safety, or welfare of an adopted animal.

Due to border restrictions and breed-specific legislation, we are currently unable to adopt to residents of Canada.

Our adoption service area is approximately within a 55-mile radius of Lockport, New York (14094).
